Alexandra Waugh, MA, LPC Intern
Supervised by Sarah Arnold, MA, LPC-S
My goal is to meet you where you are and walk alongside you as we navigate through life’s issues together. I am dedicated to creating a safe space where you feel comfortable and understood. I will work with you to help identify, explore, and replace the defeating thoughts and behaviors that have been keeping you from living your most valued life. My therapy is collaborative and we will work together on deciding goals and creating a specific plan to help you achieve those goals. You are the expert on you, and I look forward to learning about your experiences.
I enjoy hearing stories and understanding life from different points of view. I take a non-judgmental, objective stance that helps to calm your anxiety, so you can see the situation from different perspectives. Relationships are of particular interest to me either in individual therapy, couples or group. I believe we all have a strong desire to feel connection and acceptance and that the relationship between the counselor and the individual is the most important element in therapeutic change. My favorite part of therapy is connecting with my clients and watching as they grow and realize their importance, power, and value.
I enjoy working with couples, young adults, adults, and teens, and groups. I am a very curious person and feel grateful that my clinical background has allowed me the opportunity to work with many individuals on a variety of complex issues. I have experience working with depression, mood/anxiety disorders, family issues, eating disorders, LGBTQ+ identity issues, relationship difficulties, loss, and life transition issues.
Commitment to learning and continuing my education to best serve my clients is a high priority for me. I have completed Gottman Couples Therapy Level 1 training, which uses highly effective techniques to help couples work on relational problems and increase satisfaction in their relationships. I am also a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, which taught me to foster mutual respect between parents and their children. I also have received training on Internal Family Systems and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
When I’m not working, you will find me playing with my sassy French Bulldog, Winnie. I also love being outside and traveling to destinations near and far.
